Trusted electricians for Ōhope — the beachside village just over the hill from Whakatāne — covering homes, baches and holiday rentals.
Local electricians
Ōhope is one of New Zealand’s favourite beaches, sitting on a long sandspit just over the hill from Whakatāne with the open sea on one side and the harbour on the other. It’s a string of homes strung along the beachfront and back roads, and that narrow, exposed setting shapes the electrical work here more than anywhere else we cover — almost every property is genuinely coastal, not just nearby. We’re only a short drive away in Whakatāne, so getting over the hill to Ōhope is part of our normal day.
The housing is a real blend of permanent homes, classic Kiwi baches and holiday rentals, and each comes with its own electrical priorities. Owner-occupied homes tend to want the usual residential work — lighting, power points, heat pumps and switchboard upgrades — while baches and rentals need to be safe, simple and reliable for whoever’s staying. We do plenty of outdoor lighting, hot water and heat pump wiring, and quick safety checks that keep a place guest-ready between bookings without fuss.
Salt air is the defining factor at Ōhope. With the sea on the doorstep, corrosion attacks electrical contacts, outdoor fittings, switchboards and screws far faster than it would even a few kilometres inland, and beachfront homes cop the worst of it. We see pitted contacts, rusted outdoor points and boards that have quietly degraded, so we use weatherproof, corrosion-resistant gear rated for the conditions rather than standard inland fittings, and we look over connections properly rather than just patching the immediate fault.
Because many Ōhope properties sit empty for stretches between visits, a small fault can go unnoticed until it becomes a real problem or a safety risk. We’re happy to give a holiday home a periodic once-over, sort outdoor and security lighting so an empty bach doesn’t look unoccupied, and make sure everything is certified and left safe. All work is by EWRB-registered electricians, with 24/7 emergency cover for the times something goes wrong while you’re away.

Yes — coastal salt air corrodes electrical contacts and fittings faster. We use suitable materials and check connections, especially on older or beachfront homes.
Yes. We can give a bache or rental a periodic safety check between bookings, sort outdoor and security lighting, and pick up corrosion or faults before they become a problem while the place is empty.
Weatherproof, corrosion-resistant LED fittings are best at Ōhope — a mix of dusk-to-dawn and motion-sensor lights keeps an empty bache looking lived-in and copes with the salt air far better than cheap outdoor gear.
